Instruction for the Interactive Map

Explore the map: Use your cursor to explore different cities within the map area. Hover to see quick data tooltips or click to view detailed trends on the line chart. Additioanally, you can use your mouse or touchpad to zoom in and out for a closer view of specific areas. Besides, you can scroll the slider on the colorbar to visualize specific areas accroding to your chosen range for population density.

Adjust the timeframe: Select different years from the dropdown menu to see how the population density of Los Angeles's neighborhoods has changed over time.

Deep dive with the line chart: After clicking on a neighborhood, observe the line chart to analyze the population trend over time for detailed insights. The line chart will show the absolute population change for the chosen negihborhood.

Noted: The default value when first loading the population density map is set to use 2010 data while the line chart will display the populaiton trend of Irwindale neighborhood as default.

Data: The Los Angeles County population data by neighborhood is from Neighborhood Data for Social Change. While the geojson data for Los Angeles County by neighborhood is from https://github.com/blackmad/neighborhoods/blob/master/los-angeles-county.geojson.
Finally, the population density for each neighborhood involves using GeoJSON polygons to define neighborhood boundaries and integrating totoal population data of each neighborhood to compute the number of people per unit are. Also, the population density is calculate in terms of the number of people per square kilometer for each Los Angeles neighborhood.
